Twenty-eight by fifty-two inches is the standard US crib mattress, and these are cut to it with elastic all the way round rather than at the corners. That matters more here than it would on an adult bed: a fitted sheet is the only bedding that belongs on a crib mattress at all, and the sleep guidance treats anything non-fitted as a hazard however light it is.
